How to Configure and Collect a Security Deposit

A security deposit helps protect your property by covering costs from damages or unexpected situations during a guest's stay. This guide walks you through configuring your deposit and collecting it from guests.

Configuring Your Security Deposit

Step 1: Log In to Your Holidu Account

Open your Holidu Account and select the property you want to configure a security deposit for. If you manage multiple properties, you'll need to set the deposit for each one individually.

Step 2: Navigate to Configuration

On the upper left side, select "Configuration" and click on the "Pricing" section.

Step 3: Set Up the Security Deposit

Scroll down to "Additional Fees" and select "Edit". In the pop-up window, add or update your security deposit amount. Click "Save" to apply it to your property.

How to Collect a Security Deposit

Always communicate your chosen collection method to guests in the arrival information to avoid surprises at check-in.

Collection Methods

• Cash on Arrival: Request the deposit in cash when the guest arrives. This straightforward method ensures collection before check-in.
• Bank Transfer: Ask for a bank transfer a few days before arrival. This requires advance planning and clear communication with guests.
• Payment Apps: Consider using apps like Bizum (Spain), Swikly (France), or PayPal for quicker transactions.

We recommend receiving the security deposit before check-in to ensure coverage for potential charges. Return the deposit within 14 days after check-out once the property has been inspected and found in good order.

Important Considerations

• Existing Bookings: Bookings made before configuration changes are not affected. You cannot charge a different amount than what was configured when the guest booked.
• Airbnb Bookings: Security deposits are not applicable for Airbnb bookings and are strictly forbidden by their policy. Airbnb handles property protection through AirCover.
• Booking.com: Deposits may show as bank transfer only due to platform limitations, but you can still collect cash on arrival if preferred.
• Flexibility: Offer multiple payment options to accommodate guests from different regions who may prefer cash or digital payments.
