Welcome to our authentic Quebecois log home nestled in the Laurentian mountains. This beautiful chalet was originally built in 1821 and has been tastefully renovated with modern amenities, including a luxury kitchen fit for entertaining, gorgeous bathtub with view, high speed internet (fiber-optic), private office, and sauna. Manicured gardens, a private swimming hole and beach, and private lake with kayaks allow you to enjoy and escape into nature.
The Space:
The grounds: Our secluded chalet sits on 7 acres of private land, with beautifully cared for gardens, mountain stream, swimming hole with a small sandy beach, and its own private lake for kayaking. There are also multiple nature trails for hiking within minutes of the property. The famous P’tit Train du Nord (with cycling, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling trails) is a short 10 minute drive away.
The chalet: Originally built in the 1800’s, the home uses the authentic French-Canadian construction style of pièce-sur-pièce. The square logs were hewn by hand - when you visit, you will see the original saw markings on the beams. This part of the home has views of the lake from each room, a private office, and original “rail road style” bedrooms, where one room leads to the next. You will find “flying geese” pattern quilts, original paintings by Québécois artists, and local Lampadis Montréal lamps. Few examples exist of these original pièce-sur-pièce homes in such fine condition.
Modern amenities: More recently, the home has been extended to double square footage to 3500 square feet, with a grand master bedroom with views on 3 sides, a large jacuzzi bathtub and cedar sauna, new LG washer and dryer, open kitchen with Viking Ultraline chefs cooking range, fondue and raclette sets. In total, there are 2 king beds, 1 queen bed and 2 twin beds in the home. There are two easy-to-operate gas fireplaces and 2 large flat-screen TVs with Netflix, Prime, Hulu etc. The basement hosts a movie room with large sectional sofa and a 125 inch projector with full surround sound. Outdoors, there is a large screened gazebo and charcoal grill for dining outside. Cross the bridge over the brook and you’ll find a fire pit with stunning views across the gardens, lake and forest.
Guest Access:
Guests are welcome to enjoy the entire chalet, manicured gardens, private swimminghole and lake, including two kayaks with life jackets. Parking for up to 4 cars, andsecure keyless entry. There is also a travel crib available. Please be advised thatoutside security cameras are in operation on the main driveways and front/bank doors, however they do not cover other portions of the deck, lake, or gardens.
Interaction with Guests:
We are available 24/7 for in-house guests through text, your booking channel or call at the number provided upon booking! // Nous sommes disponible 24/7 pour les visiteurs dans nos chalets, soit par texto, votre plateforme de réservation, ou appel sur le numéro partager lors de la réservation!
The Neighborhood:
Location: The home is located just 60 minutes from Montréal and Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, 30 minutes from Saint-Sauveur & Mont Tremblant, and only 20 minutes to beautiful Val-David. It is conveniently located 10 minutes from the charming town of Sainte-Agathe, which has fine dining, shopping, including an IGA, Metro and Bourassa (our personal favourite).
Nearby:
- Within a 15 minute drive, we have the popular lakefront cafe Le Ravito, bakery and pizzeria Pain Voyons Donc, fine dining at Maison 1890 or Le Manoir Stonehaven as well as several shops and restaurants in Sainte Agathe, including Tres British! and Brocantique, which supply the chalet’s furniture and decor.
- Within a 30 minute drive, visit Scandinave Spa, where you can jump straight from the sauna into fresh snow or an icy stream (if you are brave enough!) Or visit Kanatha-Aki for incredible dog-sled rides, horseback riding, ziplining and more, but be warned - you might end up adopting a husky if you visit. The UQAM Nature Access Center offers kayaking, canoeing, fishing, archery, waterfall hikes, and more. Plenty of dining options and shops in Val-David including the famous Québécois Au Petit Poucet restaurant. Val-David is also the birthplace of SOS Fondue - stop by their shop for cheese and fondue supplies!
- Within 1 hour, reach trails leading to the Montagne Noir’s panoramic viewpoint - the highest mountain in the area - as well as Montagne Blanche. Skiing is nearby at Mont Tremblant (IKON pass) as well as Mont Blanc, Ski Garceau and Ski La Reserve.
Other Things to Note:
- We are pleased to offer fast fiberoptic internet suitable for streaming, video calls etc, and we often work remotely from the chalet. However, there are occasionally short Cogeco outages for brief periods of time which we are unable to control. The charm of our chalet lies in its privacy and seclusion. We encourage you to unwind and enjoy being in nature.
- Our countryside location means we have the privilege of ducks, deer, foxes, beavers and other animals that enjoy roaming the property. Inside you may occasionally notice small insects such as ladybugs. Ladybugs (asian tiger variety) are known to be an issue across Canada currently. Keeping these critters 100% outside of the house is impossible given the natural materials the home is made from, but they are luckily harmless.
- The chalet is accessible by road year-round, and is paved up until ~9kms from the chalet. In winter we recommend an all-wheel drive vehicle.
- Owner must give permission for more than 8 guests or for pets. Without owner’s permission, each additional guest over 8 will incur an additional charge of $100 per person per night.
- Electric outlets, stairs, and the deck are not child-proof. By requesting a booking you acknowledge this and take full responsibility for any accidents should they happen during your stay.
